Festival fever in Furzedown

Published: Thursday 8th June 17

This year’s Furzedown Festival kicks off tomorrow (June 9) and features a range of events culminating in The Big Day Out summer spectacular.

Festival highlights include The Great Big Furzedown Yard Sale, garden gigs and concerts, art and drama, a guided walk, the Furzedown Scarecrow Trail, a pop-up village green and lots more.

The Furzedown Festival is also joining forces with The London Festival of Architecture for Ghosts of Furzedown, connecting people with the memory of fallen first world war soldiers in the streets where they lived.

The highlight of the festival is the Big Day Out on June 17 on Furzedown Rec. This year’s theme is Furzedown-on-Sea and will feature live bands and dance groups, stalls, food and drink, old fashioned fairground games, children’s arts and crafts, skateboarding, a bouncy castle and donkey rides.

The event runs from 12 noon to 8pm and is free to attend.

The Furzedown Festival is organised by the Furzedown Community Network with support from Pearl the Chemist, C Bradbury, the Workers’ Beer Company, Mitcham Belle Coaches, Bramley Autos, E&A Wates and Wandsworth Council, which has provided funding through the Wandsworth Grant Fund.
