Crowds flocking to Employ Wandsworth jobs fair

Hundreds of local jobseekers have been meeting with potential employers and getting advice on job and training opportunities at the Employ Wandsworth 2017 Jobs Fair at the Civic Suite today (April 21).

The event, organised by Wandsworth Council’s Work Match team, offers local people expert advice on CVs, interview skills, career development and business start-up. It is open until 3pm.

Exhibitors include Battersea Power Station, the Northern Line Extension, Metro Bank, Decathlon, Southside, ASDA, Virgin Active, the NHS, Wagamama, the Battersea Academy of Skill Excellence, Banham Academy and Mace Group.

This year’s event looks set to be the busiest yet, with more than a thousand people from all ages and backgrounds estimated to have turned up.

The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy, is at the event. She said: “Our borough is benefiting from record levels of new investment, and Employ Wandsworth is all about linking local people with new job and training opportunities that flow from this growth and development.

“This event brings 36 different employers together under one roof, alongside 12 partner agencies offering a range of valuable employment support services.  It’s fantastic so see so many people here taking advantage of this fantastic opportunity. 

“If you couldn’t make it here today then please do get in touch with our Work Match team who are dedicated to helping Wandsworth residents achieve their careers aspirations. Almost 700 local people have already secured work or training with their support and you could be next.”

Work Match  is free, exclusively for Wandsworth residents, with apprenticeships, part-time work and full time positions on offer.  The Work Match team also offers coaching in the run up to interviews, pre-employment training, guidance with applications, and help to build confidence.
