Open day offers tips on how to own your own home
Published: Tuesday 4th October 16
Get information and advice on how you can own your first home at the Affordable Housing Open Day later this month.
Open the Door 2016 is organised by the council's Home Ownership Team and is aimed at first time buyers who live and work in Wandsworth and earn up to a maximum household income of £90,000, plus Wandsworth council tenants.
You will be able to meet with the council’s Home Ownership Team which manages a list of eligible buyers who live or work in Wandsworth. Many of the new affordable homes being built in Wandsworth can be purchased on shared ownership terms by local buyers who live or work in the borough but who must be registered on the Home Ownership Team’s list. Council tenants can also find out about other schemes specifically aimed at them, such as:
- Right to Buy
- House Purchase Grant
- Housing moves to smaller or sheltered accommodation.
Local housing providers; Independent financial and legal advisors will also be there to give personal advice on mortgages and the buying process.
Wandsworth's Housing Lettings team will also be available to answer enquiries from council tenants who wish to transfer into another more suitable property.
Wandsworth's housing spokesman, Cllr Paul Ellis, said: “Ensuring our residents have access to affordable housing is a council priority. Last year 501 new affordable homes were built, of which 334 were shared ownership, and 96 per cent of those shared ownership homes went to Wandsworth residents.
“Open the Door is a one-stop shop to help people find out about schemes such as shared ownership, and get the support and advice they need to get on the housing ladder.”
