Take a peek behind the doors of Wandsworth artists

Published: Tuesday 27th September 16

Wandsworth artists are opening their doors to the public again this year for the Artists’ Open House.

Over two consecutive weekends this October, come and discover amazing art normally behind closed doors as around 100 artists invite you into their homes and exhibition spaces.

The event is coordinated by Wandsworth Arts Team, part of Enable Leisure & Culture, on behalf of Wandsworth Council.

It’s a chance to see what happens inside the artist’s work environment and discover more about their creative process.

You can browse, buy and talk about the various artworks on display in an informal and relaxed setting. There will be art catering for all budgets too - including crafts, sculpture, painting, jewellery and photography from both professional and amateur artists and makers.

Some open houses will offer live demonstrations, with the chance to create your own art, whilst others are offering guests wine, drinks and even homemade cupcakes.

The whole family is invited, with one artist planning on using children as "living canvases" by painting their faces.

Council arts spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said: “Artists’ Open House is a great chance to support the artists in your community, and to gain insight into what happens inside their work environments.

“The event will also give everyone a chance to own a piece of art, with work available to suit all budgets.”

This year you can curate your own discovery trail of artists right on your doorstep, as well as selecting the type of art you’d like to see.

Printed guides with a map of all open houses will be available from your local library, and at various venues and organisations throughout the borough.  Brochures can also be obtained from Wandsworth Arts Team by emailing arts@wandsworth.gov.uk, or visiting wandsworthart.com
