Parents reminded of this week’s deadline to accept primary school places
Published: Monday 27th April 15
Parents whose children have been offered a primary school place for this coming September are being reminded they only have a few days left to formally accept the offer.
If they want the school place then parents must formally accept it in writing by Thursday, April 30.
In order to do this, parents need to complete and return the acceptance form that came with their offer. If this paperwork is not completed and returned to the town hall in time then the place may be offered to other children on the school’s waiting list.
The council’s head of pupil services Adam Wells said: “It is really important that parents return this simple form to confirm that they do want the reception class place they’ve been offered.
“It is really easy to do – it won’t take even a minute to complete – but it is really important that we receive the form before the deadline so that we know what parents are intending to do.
“Obviously if they no longer need or want the school place then the sooner they tell us the sooner we can offer it to another child.”
Primary school offers were sent out on April 16. This year 77.5 per cent of children were offered their first choice school – a rise of 4.2 per cent on the previous year.
Children offered one of their top three preferred choices climbed to 91.5 per cent – up from 87.4 per cent in 2014.
The number of applications received for a reception class place at a Wandsworth primary rose by just over one per cent, compared to the previous year. All parents who applied for a school place were offered one.
According to the schools standard watchdog Ofsted, 96 per cent of Wandsworth’s primary schools are currently classed as either good or outstanding.
