Plan your free travel home on New Year’s Eve

Published: Tuesday 30th December 14

New Year’s Eve partygoers are being encouraged to plan their journeys home and to take advantage of the free travel services being provided by Transport for London (TfL).

Free travel will be available between 23:45 on 31 December and 04:30 on 1 January on the Tube and buses and until last train and tram times on the London Overground, Tramlink and DLR.

Please note that some selected Tube stations will be closed completely or at certain times to prevent dangerous overcrowding.

For the list of closures and to plan a safe journey home visit www.tfl.gov.uk/festive.

Residents are also being reminded that some roads in central London will start closing to traffic from 14:00 to prepare for the New Year celebrations with all closures in place from 20:00 until 06:00, with some roads re-opening earlier if it's safe to do so.

Public transport will be the best way to get around London although some buses will be on diversion or finish early due to the road closures.

People choosing to take a taxi home are advised to always use a black cab or pre-booked minicab to ensure that their journey is safe and legal.

Night buses and 24 hour routes will also be operating, though some routes may be on diversion due to road closures in central London.

TfL’s Festive Travel Guide is available online at www.tfl.gov.uk/festive.

TfL’s 24 hour travel information call centre can also provide information and phone numbers for taxi and private hire services in London. Call 0343 222 1234.
