Wandsworth Town gets ready for Christmas

Get into the festive mood at the Wandsworth Town Christmas lights celebrations on Saturday (Nov 29).

Activities are as follows:

11am to 3pm  - Free Christmas craft activities in the main mall of Southside Shopping Centre.

  • Victorian Christmas craft workshop hosted by Wandsworth Museum
  • Card making workshop hosted by Collective Studios
  • Face painting courtesy of Wandsworth Museum.

11am to 3pm - Cardboard Automata - a toy making workshop presented by The Pump House Gallery upstairs at Southside, next to Prezzo.

11am and 3pm - A series of performances of seasonal songs by members of South Thames College music department in Southside

3.15pm to 3.45pm - Christmas story time at Wandsworth Town Library; 11 Garratt Lane:

3.45pm to 4.20pm -  A Christmas lantern procession by West Hill Primary School children, parents and teachers will weave through Southside Shopping Centre to the light switch on outside All Saints Church. Procession presented in partnership with Wandsworth Museum.

4:20pm - Christmas light switch on by the Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr Stuart Thom in the grounds of All Saints Church. The Mayor will draw the winning tickets for the Christmas quiz.

5pm -  Annual lights carol service, All Saints Church. The service will include readings of the Christmas Story and well known carols and will feature representatives from St Cecelia‚Äôs School and the National Opera Studio.

5.45pm - Mince pies, mulled wine and soft drinks, compliments of Waitrose, Wandsworth. All are welcome to share mince pies and mulled wine at All Saints Church following the Carol Service with background performances by members of the National Opera Studio.

Other highlights include the Radio Jackie roadshow outside Southside in the High Street. Father Christmas will mingle with shoppers and will join the lantern procession.   

There is also a Christmas-themed quiz on the Wandsworth Town Library website. Drop your answers at the library by 5pm on Friday (Nov 28) to be entered in the draw for prizes including cinema tickets donated by Cineworld, Wandsworth or a shopping voucher courtesy of Planet Organic.

The pictures show last year's event, including the art workshops, lantern parade and carol service.
