Dozens of local people signed up with the council’s Work Match service yesterday as the recruitment team began a summer roadshow at Southside Shopping Centre.

The event showcased a range of live job vacancies including roles inside the shopping center itself and across Wandsworth Town.

During August the Work Match team will also be visiting Putney, Clapham Junction and Tooting.

Local resident Shaleace Pottinger has just started a new job with the Pandora store in Southside which she secured with help from Work Match. She said:

“Work Match have been really helpful and supportive. They put me forward for the job with Pandora and coached me through the application and the interview. I’m really grateful for the help they gave me and I strongly recommend other people give them a call if they’re looking for work.”

Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said:

“Southside is a great example of the growth and investment we’re seeing in Wandsworth. New shops and restaurants continue to open their doors here and local people like Shaleace are the first to benefit. It’s great to see so many residents taking advantage of our fantastic Work Match service.”

Vi Chu, Deputy General Manager for Southside, said:

“We’re delighted to have Work Match here with us. As the centre continues to grow and expand we want to make sure as many local people as possible can take advantage of the new jobs being created.”

The Work Match recruitment service is free for employers to use. The team is already working with a range of national and local businesses to help them identity suitable, job-ready candidates from within the borough.

The team recruits for a range of industries including construction, retail, catering, administration, events and many more.

Since starting up late last year Work Match has secured jobs for more than 100 people and helped hundreds more through jobs fairs and pre-employment skills training.

The next dates for the recruitment roadshows will be:

  • Wednesday 6th August – By St Mary’s Church, Putney High Street
  • Thursday 14th August – By Jamie’s Recipease, St Johns Road, Clapham Junction
  • Wednesday 27th August – Outside Sainsburys in Tooting Broadway between 10am and 2pm
