Have your say on Article 4 Directions

Published: Tuesday 25th February 14

A public consultation is now underway after the council published two ‘Article 4 Directions’ for The Wheatsheaf pub on Upper Tooting Road.

If approved, the directions would remove certain ‘permitted development rights’ so the owners would need to apply for planning permission before changing the building’s use or starting demolition work.

Residents are now being asked to have their say on the Article 4 Directions as part of a statutory consultation process.

Once all feedback has been carefully assessed the council will be able to make a decision on whether to grant the directions.

Wandsworth’s strategic planning spokesman, Councillor Russell King, said:

“Last year the council officially recognised this pub as an ‘Asset of Community Value’ amid fears it was about to be sold and converted into a shop.

“Now we are consulting on two Article 4 Directions which could prevent the owner from changing its use and/or demolishing the building without first applying for planning permission. This is an important step and we are listening very carefully to what local people and other stakeholders have to say about the proposal.

“To make your voice heard get in touch with the council’s planning department.”

The consultation runs until Thursday 3 April 2014.
