Heathrow public meeting next week

Published: Wednesday 29th January 14

Council leader Ravi Govindia will address a public meeting in Putney next week examining the potential impacts of the Airports Commission’s proposals for expanding Heathrow and allowing more night flights.

John Stewart of aviation campaign group HACAN will also be there as well as local MP Justine Greening.

The meeting will be held at St Mary’s Church, Putney High Street on Thursday 6 February at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

The Airports Commission headed up by Sir Howard Davies has issued it’s first report which recommends more night flights from 2015 and shortlists Heathrow as a potential location for new runways.

Cllr Govindia said: “We are deeply concerned at the commission’s first set of recommendations and its methodology for selecting a new runway site in the south of England.

“We know that local residents share our fears and are deeply worried about the impacts of bigger, less regulated Heathrow will have on their health and their quality of life. This event will be an opportunity to share your views and to find out what you can do to influence the Government’s policy on airport expansion.”
