Christmas comes to Putney

The spectacular Putney Christmas Lights and Market event tomorrow (Nov 29) will start Putney’s Christmas shopping season with a bang.

The event, organised by the council and the Putney Partnership, includes food and gift stalls, mulled wine, Carters Steam Fair, a bouncy castle and carousel for the youngsters, a free lantern workshop, Christmas carols sung by local schools, music and entertainment.

A lantern procession of more than 100 people will make its way through the town centre and shops will stay open late for Christmas shopping.

The timetable is as follows:  

  • 3pm: Christmas market opens
  • 3.30pm to 5.20pm: School choirs
  • 5.30pm: Putney Light Operatic Society
  • 5.40pm: Latern procession begins at Putney Library 
  • 5.50pm: Red Star Boys hip-hop street dance
  • 6pm: Tree and Christmas lights switch-on
  • 6.05pm  World Heartbeat
  • 6.30pm  Dave Fisher Trio
  • 7pm  Putney Arts Theatre
  • 7.45pm Market closes
