Wandsworth residents from Croatia are being encouraged to register to vote.
On July 1 Croatia will officially become a member state of the European Union, and its citizens will have the same voting rights as all those from other EU countries.
They will be entitled to vote in the council and European Parliamentary elections that are both taking place in Wandsworth on Thursday May 22, 2014.
Electoral data shows growing numbers of mainland Europeans are choosing to live in Wandsworth. Since 2004 the number of non-British European Union (EU) citizens has swelled from 11,690 to 24,156. .
All Croatian residents over 17 living in the borough should complete an application form to register.
Voting ensures your voice is heard by decision makers on issues such as public transport, highways, social care and education. Registering to vote does not mean you are automatically put on the council tax list.
