Seven days to meet schools deadline

Published: Wednesday 24th October 12

Parents have just seven days left to submit their list of secondary school choices for next September’s intake of pupils.

Parents must apply by the deadline of Wednesday, October 31 if they want their child to obtain a place at a state-run secondary school at the start of the next academic year in September 2013.

This deadline applies to children who were born between September 1, 2001 and August 31, 2002 and will be transferring from primary to secondary school next September.

Parents who live in the borough must submit their applications to Wandsworth Council. The easiest way to do this is online at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/admissions.

Visitors to this part of the council's website can also access lots of information about local secondaries and how the admissions process works. A special brochure called 'Choose a Wandsworth Secondary School' contains all the key information families need when making their decisions.

Copies can be downloaded at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/admissions or can be requested by emailing admissions@wandsworth.gov.uk.

Executive member for education and children's services Cllr Kathy Tracey said: "It is vital that local parents do not miss this crucial deadline.

"If they do not apply on time they may find it more difficult to secure a place at the school they prefer, so meeting next week's deadline is hugely important.

"Parents can apply for places at six schools in any part of London, but they are being strongly advised to include at least one that is close to home."

Parents who apply by the October 31 deadline will be told the outcome of their applications at the beginning of March next year.
