New look Tooting Triangle playground

Published: Thursday 23rd February 12

Children living near Tooting Common now have a great new playground to explore and enjoy with the opening of the new-look Tooting Triangle play facility.

The play area has undergone a £215,000 revamp and now boasts the latest outdoor play equipment including large timber climbing pieces, a hammock, swings and a giant sandpit.

The refurbished play area was formally opened by the Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr Jane Cooper earlier this month.

The council's cabinet member for children services Cllr Kathy Tracey said: "This is a tremendous natural look playground for children in the area. It has a great range of new equipment and is sure to be a popular leisure spot for local families."

Wandsworth manages more than 200 playgrounds and play areas in parks, commons and housing estates.

While it is good to see the upgrade, more attention should have gone into the planning. There are less facilities for younger children (before there was a cycle activity as well as a tractor). The new playground seems directed to much older children (7+) and focuses mainly on ropes that you stand and balance on using a rope you hold on to). There is not enough variation and I think more thought would have created facilities accessible to wider range and therefore greater number of children.
