Deadline looms for sports award entries

Residents are being urged to hurry if they want to nominate a coach, volunteer, sports person, club or team to be crowned one of Wandsworth’s sporting heroes.

The Active Wandsworth Awards will celebrate sport and physical activity in the borough - aiming to give nominees recognition for their hard work, dedication or achievement in 2011.

With the Friday, February 3 deadline fast approaching, Wandsworth Council is calling on residents to ensure their local sporting hero receives the acknowledgement they deserve in this Olympic year.

Nominees will be separated into nine categories. They are:

  • Sports Club of the Year
  • The Mayor's Award - recognising an individual's and/or organisation's contribution to disability sport
  • Voluntary Services to Sport - recognising volunteers who have made a significant impact in 2011
  • Outstanding Contribution to Sport
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Coach/ Instructor of the Year
  • Junior Sports Personality of the Year - 13 and under
  • Sports Personality of the Year - 21 and under
