Search continues for cycle hire locations
Release date: Tuesday 18th October 11
Suggested locations for new Barclays Cycle Hire docking stations have been flooding in since the council announced is was short listing potential sites in the north of the borough.
The Mayor's popular scheme is set to expand into south west London in 2013.
If approved some 50 to 60 docking stations would be installed in the area of Wandsworth which lies to the east of Putney High Street and north of the South Circular.
The council has been lobbying for the popular bikes to be rolled out south of the river as part of the Wandsworth Travel Choices campaign. This new initiative aims to bring smarter, faster and greener transport options to the borough like pay-as-you-go bike hire, car clubs and new tube services.
Since the consultation was launched last week more than 100 different sites have been identified and the list continues to grow.
Cllr Russell King, Wandsworth Council's transport spokesman, said: "The high level of response shows just how many local people are planning to use these bikes.
"The scheme will give local people a convenient and cheap alternative to their existing transport options and will help reduce the burden on our jam-packed tubes, buses and trains.
"I urge anyone who travels through the study area to tell us where they think the bikes should be located.

I love this scheme and have used it in central London. It would be great if we could have bikes in Tooting allowing us to connect more easily with Clapham Junction and also into Wandsworth and the surrounding areas.Julian Smith, Tooting

Great idea. Locate them at or near Putney Railway station and Wandsworth Town plus Putney East tube. You could also consider down by the River near St Mary's at the bridge, Putney Leisure Centre, Roehampton Uni, or the St Mary's Hospital, Southfields tube and possibly the Green Man for the bus hub. Great idea.Walter Rothon, Putney
