24 hours left to comment on bus route plan

Published: Thursday 28th July 11

People who want to have their say on plans to extend a bus route into a residential street in Balham have until 5pm tomorrow (Friday) to register their views.

Transport for London is consulting the public on proposals to extend the 255 bus route into Old Devonshire Road.

If approved, buses would start running along this residential street at 5.50am and continue throughout the day and night until 12.50am - six days a week.

Buses would run every 12 minutes in both directions, reduced to a 20 minute frequency in the evenings and on Sundays.

The consultation ends at 5pm tomorrow, Friday, July 29.

Wandsworth's transport spokesman Cllr Russell King said: "If you have a view you wish to express about these proposals then it is pretty much now or never. You have just 24 hours left, so if you have something say to then don't put it off or it might be too late.

"These proposals are certainly controversial and could have a big impact on people living in the area in terms of noise and traffic congestion.

"Similar proposals were seen off by residents in 2009, but now they are back, if residents still feel the same way then now is the time for them to act."

Most Balham residents are keen to have this additional bus service and the width of Old Devonshire Road makes it the ideal choice of route. Perhaps the people living in Old Devonshire Road should be a little less "nimby" and think of the rest of the community.
