Free vehicle emission checks today

Published: Thursday 31st March 11

Wandsworth Council’s environmental initiatives team is offering free vehicle emissions testing today (March 31) until 4pm in the car parks at Sainsbury’s Garratt Lane and ASDA Clapham Junction.

The testing is part of the council's efforts to improve air quality within Wandsworth by ensuring the pollutants emitted from vehicles are kept to an absolute minimum. Many drivers do not realise that their vehicle should meet the MOT standard throughout the year.

As well as carrying out the tests, the team will be giving practical advice on how to improve vehicle efficiency and reduce harmful emissions while saving on running costs.

Copies of the council's "Smarter Driving Tips" leaflet will also be available which suggests simple steps motorist can take such as removing unnecessary weight from the car, switching off the air conditioning and pumping tires up to the correct pressure.

This year's testing follows Climate Week (21 to 27 March, 2011) when individuals are encouraged to do their bit to help protect the planet and create a secure future for future generations.
