Active residents win awards

Local people who have made an outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity have been honoured with Active Wandsworth Awards.

The evening rewards talented local athletes, coaches, volunteers and teams for their exceptional achievements during 2010.

The 14th annual Active Wandsworth awards were handed out at a special ceremony attended by world champion, Commonwealth Champion and Paralympic gold medallist Danielle Brown.

The winners were:

Sports Club of the Year

A club or individual who has made a positive impact on the community by providing an opportunity to increase participation or learn new skills.

Winner: Ernest Bevin Phoenix Judo Club

The Mayor's Award

A club or individual that has shown outstanding commitment and dedication to make a significant achievement within disability sport.

Winner: James Webster

Voluntary Services to Sport and Physical Activity

A volunteer who has made a valuable contribution that has made a difference in the community by providing opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity.

Winners: Matthew Brown, Grenville Fox, Chris Gore, Maureen Hayes, Sandy Lewis, Jennie Molyneux, Pete Mullholland, Colin Speller and Bridget Yule

A Special prize was awarded to Steve Bosley for his outstanding contribution to volunteering in sport and physical activity.

Young Volunteer of the Year

A young volunteer who has made a valuable contribution that has made a difference in the community and provided opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity.

Winner: Fabio Gouveia

Coach of the Year

A dedicated, hard working and enthusiastic individual who has shown outstanding commitment to a team or club in providing opportunities for people to take part at community level.

Winner: Neil Harrison, Spencer Cricket Club 

Team of the year

A junior team or club that has had outstanding success or made significant achievements in 2009.

Winner: Ernest Bevin U13s Table Tennis Club

Junior Sports Person of the Year (13 and under)

A talented, dedicated and hard working young athlete who has excelled at a high level to achieve outstanding success in 2009.

Winner: Lascelles Hussey

Sports Person of the Year (21 and under)

A talented, dedicated and hard working athlete who has excelled at a high level to achieve outstanding success in 2009.

Winner: Katie Snowden

John WE Davis Award

Presented to the Wandsworth Team which made the most significant contribution to the 2010 London Youth Games

Winner: London Youth Games Boys' Judo Team

David Burns Award

Presented to the individual who made the most significant contribution to the 2010 London Youth Games

Winner: Tim Livingstone
