Residents invited to Nine Elms meetings

 The council is hosting two meetings for residents interested in plans for the regeneration of the Nine Elms district of Battersea.

The first takes place Tuesday 27 July at the Rose Community Clubroom, Ascalon Street. The second take place the following day at All Saints Church, Prince Of Wales Drive. Both meetings run from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Nine Elms is central London’s biggest regeneration opportunity. The area covers more than 450 acres of land along the south bank of The Thames – the vast majority of which is gearing up for major redevelopment.

The combined proposals for the area could create up to 16,000 new homes and around 25,000 new jobs.

The council’s information meetings are designed to give residents the chance to hear from and ask question of leading councillors and planning officers about how Nine Elms could change.

Topics up for discussion include the vision and planning policies for the area, the employment and business opportunities likely to be created as well as new parks and community facilities.

The development plans for major Nine Elms sites including the American Embassy and Battersea Power Station will be on display.

Council leader Edward Lister said:

"Nine Elms is on the brink of an extraordinary transformation which will create thousands of new jobs, homes and opportunities. Local people are vital to the area's future, and these meetings are an important way of continuing their involvement in the new Nine Elms. I hope to see as many people there as possible."
