More major retailers join Southside

Photo to accompany this press release  Three more fashion retailers will be opening new stores in Southside Shopping Centre, Wandsworth Town over the coming months.

Southside's owner, Metro Shopping Fund, has confirmed that TK Maxx, New Look and Republic have signed new leases and will be open for business in the summer.

The council has welcomed the new investment as more evidence the town centre is bucking the economic trend.

The new 30,000 square foot TK Maxx will occupy a key site in the North Mall, facing out onto Wandsworth High Street.

New Look will be setting up shop at the opposite end of the North Mall, and the new Republic store will join the existing fashion line up in the Central Mall, next door to River Island.

The new arrivals represent another step forward for the shopping centre and talks are ongoing with other interested retailers.

Wandsworth Council's regeneration spokesman James Cousins said:

"This is great news for Southside and another welcome boost for the town centre's regeneration. These investors recognise the area is on the up, and we expect to be welcoming more new businesses to the area in the months ahead.

"The council is doing its part to support local trade through freezing local parking charges and offering grants and interest free loans to help businesses improve their premises. Wandsworth based firms also benefit from our low council tax, which leaves residents with more cash to spend in our town centres."

Steve Burgin, Metro Fund's Retail Asset Management Director, said:

"The introduction of two major new North Mall retailers is crucial to delivering the next phase of Southside's transformation and allows us to revitalise this important entrance to the scheme from Wandsworth High Street.

"We are committed to enhancing our shopping centre in the heart of Wandsworth and creating a retail space that attracts quality brands to secure Southside's position as the main fashion and lifestyle destination in the area. We have continued to shift the centre's mix of shops with a range of quality brands such as UniQlo, River Island, Body Shop, Gap, Tiger and now Republic."

Wandsworth Town's regeneration is being driven forward by eight major development sites, all within a few minutes walk of the high street. The schemes have a combined value in excess of £1bn.
