New-look play spaces unveiled
Four local play spaces have reopened to the public with a wealth of challenging new facilities.
The locations are Bramford Road SW18, Upper Tooting Park SW17, Wandsworth Park SW15 and York Gardens SW11.
The refurbishment projects are part of a £2million programme of playground improvements taking place across the borough, joint funded by the council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Executive member for children's services Kathy Tracey said:
"The play spaces look fantastic and provide a terrific range of new equipment.
"It’s very important that we provide first rate facilities right across the borough to help encourage kids to get off the sofa and come out to exercise in the open air.”
At York Gardens an open access play space has been created with a range of modern equipment and sports facilities. The new apparatus includes climbing nets, giant climbing cubes, a skate boarding practice ramp and a basketball net.
A range of outdoor fitness equipment has also been installed including a multi exercise station which can be used by adults as well as youngsters.
Improvements at Bramford Road include a new natural play space with a climbing boulder, rock gravel, bark and plants. There are also new swings, a spinning dish, double gyro, climbing frame and slide.
Upper Tooting Park play space now boasts new vertical poles, balance blocks, climbing boulders and replanted shrub beds. New play equipment includes a basket swing, revolving moon walk dish and climbing frame.
The Wandsworth Park play space has been enlarged and now includes a wooded climbing wall, a basket swing, activity trail equipment and a rocking horse.
