Tooting parking package and charge freeze
A year-long freeze on parking pay and display charges in Tooting is expected to be welcomed by the town’s shops and businesses.
This is the third successive year when the cost of parking in a Tooting pay and display bay has not risen.
The freeze is part of a package of new measures to make it easier to park in Tooting town centre.
The free Saturday shoppers’ car park at the Professional Centre in Franciscan Road will remain open for at least another 12 months.
The council will also try and create more parking bays, for example on redundant yellow lines, and it will see if time limits on some one-hour bays can be extended.
And it will consult on plans to create an ‘inner’ CPZ to help people who live near Tooting Broadway underground station. They often find it difficult to park near their homes because of commuters living elsewhere within the existing CPZ using their permits to park near the station.
The changes are being brought in as part of the Tooting Together initiative, which is a long-term council plan to improve the town centre.
Leader of the council Edward Lister said the aim was to boost town centre trade.
“We know that businesses and shoppers have raised concerns about parking in Tooting. We want them to know we have listened to them and are prepared to take action. As a result we have come forward with this package of a further year’s freeze of pay and display charges and our free Saturday car park – together with other options we hope will make parking for shoppers easier.”

Outrageous charge of £50 for overstaying 2 hours by Eurocarparks in Sainsbury's Tooting. Poorly displayed penalty in a busy shopping centre which would easily take up 2 hours. I expected it to be like Croydon or Putney (I live in Streatham) where you pay something like a £1 an hour. You must do something to stop this scam.
