Educational psychology

Who are educational psychologists?

Educational Psychologists (EPs) are applied psychologists concerned with the development, learning and social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people.

We work with teachers, parents and carers, as well as other professionals, to try to bring about positive change that promotes the effective education, wellbeing and inclusion of all children.

Teachers, parents/carers and other professionals consult us about a wide range of concerns such as learning difficulties, social, emotional and behavioural problems, physical disabilities and classroom management issues.

We work with children and young people between the ages of 2 to 19 in a variety of educational and other settings.

We provide a range of services to schools, pupils and their parents and also  alongside other professionals including:

  • The Educational Welfare Service and the Schools Inspectorate and Early Years providers.
  • Social Work teams
  • The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
  • Local Health Trusts and providers, including speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
