About the Community Safety team
Overview
Our Community Safety team is one of the main members of the Wandsworth Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which delivers community safety and crime prevention services across the borough. It is an integral part of the Environmental Services and Community Safety Division of the Technical Services Department.
The team, headed by Stewart Low, comprises Community Safety and Crime Prevention Services:
Community Safety

Services include:
- The Neighbourhood Watch scheme
- The Junior and Safer Citizen Schemes
- External funding for crime prevention programmes
- Alley gate and crime prevention projects
- Victim and witness services
- Various long-term and seasonal community safety initiatives
Crime Prevention Services
Manager: John Whittington
Services include:
- The Anti-Social Behaviour Unit (ASBU)
- The Wandsafe Burglary Aftercare Service
- The CCTV and Retail Radio network
- Security grants
- Various other aspects of crime prevention
Impact on crime
Wandsworth is the safest borough in Inner London and has a consistently lower crime rate than the average for Greater London. Crime committed in the borough has in recent years fallen more than in similar higher crime areas.
In 2004/05, the cost of crime to taxpayers in Wandsworth was estimated to be £299,000,000; in 2007/08, it had fallen to £247,494,110.
