Nine Elms
Infrastructure
The forecast scale of growth for Nine Elms will require proportionate investment in physical and social infrastructure, particularly transport infrastructure, but will also probably include:
- A new primary school
- Shared school/community facilities
- A library
- Health facilities
- Public open spaces (including the linear park)
- Children's play areas
- Places of worship.
Major new public transport provision is needed to support Nine Elms regeneration, including an extension to the Northern Line (see following page).
Developments at the Vauxhall Cross transport interchange will create a more efficient transport hub and gateway. This will improve the provision of the existing bus station and make the area more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists. Placing a focus on transport modes other than just cars will result in a more pleasant environment.
Adequate pedestrian linkages between developments at Vauxhall Heart, transport services, the riverside and open spaces are to be provided. In Wandsworth, Nine Elms Lane/Battersea Park Road may be enhanced to provide an urban boulevard, to better accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.
