Documents required
If you are not married to or not a civil partner of a British citizen/5 year rules
You should apply via the 5-year requirements.
The following documents must be provided:
- Completed application form
- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/travel document to cover the last 5 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK, such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
- Most recent tax self-assessment statement (if self-employed)
- Marriage certificate/ civil partnership certificate if you are applying as a couple
- Driving licence and counterpart (if used as ID for Life in UK test)
- Home Office fees - £836 for one adult, £1294 for married couple/civil partners with a marriage/civil partnership certificate (payable by card or cheque)
- Our fees £45 adult, £20 per child

- Indefinite leave to remain - it does not matter how long you have had this
- Completed application form
- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/ travel document to cover the last 3 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK, such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
- Most recent tax self-assessment statement (if self-employed)
- Husband/wife's/civil partner's British passport
- Marriage/civil partnership certifcate
- Driving licence and counterpart (if used as ID for Life in UK test)
- Home Office fees: £836 for one adult (payable card or cheque)
- Our fees £45 adult, £20 per child
