Documents required
If you are not married to a British citizen/5 year rules
Applicants who are not married to a British citizen should apply via the 5-year requirements. The following documents must be provided:
- Completed application form
- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/travel document to cover the last 5 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK, such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
- Most recent tax self-assessment statement (if self-employed)
- Marriage certificate/ civil partnership certificate if you are applying as a married couple
- Driving licence (if used as ID for Life in UK test)
- Home Office fees - £720 for one adult, £850 for married couple with a marriage certificate (payable by card, cheque, transcash)
- Our fees (£40 adult, £20 child)
If you are married to a British citizen/3 year rules
Applicants who are married to a British citizen should apply via the 3-year requirements. The following documents must be provided:
- Indefinite leave to remain - it does not matter how long you have had this
- Completed application form
- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/ travel document to cover the last 3 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK, such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
- Most recent tax self-assessment statement (if self-employed)
- Husband/wife's British passport
- Driving licence (if used as ID for Life in UK test)
- Home Office fees: £720 for one adult (payable card, cheque, transcash)
- Our fees (£40 adult, £20 child)
