Documents required
If you are not married to a British citizen/5 year rules
- Indefinite leave to remain - you must have had this for at least 1 year
- Completed application form
- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/travel document to cover the last 5 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK, such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
- Most recent tax self-assessment statement (if self-employed)
- Marriage certificate/ civil partnership certificate if you are applying as a married couple
- Driving licence (if used as ID for Life in UK test)
- Home Office fees - £720 for one adult, £850 for married couple with a marriage certificate - (Payable card, cheque, transcash)
- Our fees (£40 adult, £20 child)

- Knowledge of Life in UK test/ ESOL certificate and college letter
- Passport/ travel document to cover the last 3 years - if your passport does not cover this time or there are gaps between your passports, you must provide other evidence of living in the UK , such as: benefit letters, college/ school letters, P60s, wage slips. Bills, bank statements and council tax letters are not acceptable.
