Our Wandsworth 2018
Making Wandsworth safer
Our vision
We want Wandsworth to remain one of the safest places to live, work and visit in London.
What you've said
Crime and community safety is one of your top two priorities. Crime figures, and the fear of crime, are both lower in Wandsworth than other London boroughs, but 12 per cent of you are very worried about becoming a victim. You are also worried about anti-social behaviour, including vandalism, graffiti, drunk and rowdy behaviour and intimidation.
There is a perception that young people are becoming more violent. We will also face issues caused by a population increase and an expanding night-time economy.
What we'll do
- Cut anti-social behaviour and reduce youth crime
- Reduce the fear of crime
- Provide treatment for more drug users
- Secure our fair share of police resources
- Engage more effectively with the public
- Focus on the small amount of prolific offenders that cause much of the crime
How we're doing it
We will continue to develop our work with young offenders on our community reparation programme, which is one of the most successful in London .
Reparation schemes are a way for young people to give something back to the community to make up for the harm they caused. Joe (not his real name) carries out regular work at an allotment. He says:
"I thought it was going to be rubbish, but it was good. It seems like a nice thing to do and a good place to be."
He has now put his name down for his own allotment.
