Design awards 2009
Leaflets promoting the design Awards scheme inviting nominations for projects completed since the beginning of 2007 were sent to the main amenity societies in the Borough and the Wandsworth Access Association, and were made available at libraries, at the Town Hall reception points, and on the Council's web site. Organisations were invited to canvass nominations from their members in advance. The scheme was also promoted at the Wandsworth (Conservation Area) Advisory Committee.
Thirty-six projects were nominated, comprising 8 building extensions, restoration and/or conversion projects, 13 new buildings,3 landscape schemes, one sustainable project and 11 access improvement schemes.
The nominations in the access cateogry were inspected by members of the Wandsworth Access Association assisted by council officers, in November 2009, and a detailed report of the inspections was prepared by the Association for the judging panel.
The judging panel met on 19 January 2010. It was chaired by Councillor McDonnell, and comprised councillors, representatives ofthe local amenity societies, Wandsworth Access Association and South London Society of Architects.
The winners of the 2009 Wandsworth Design Awards received their certificates at a ceremony held at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disabiity, West Hill, Putney, SW15 on 4 March 2010.
