Listed buildings and borough history

Listed buildings - Introduction

Listed buildings are buildings of special architectural or historic interest and are listed by the Government in consultation with English Heritage.

Wandsworth has around 500 listed buildings which include a wide range of building types and ages that are considered to be of national importance.

Our listed buildings include:

  • Bridges across the Thames
  • Burial tombs in several cemeteries
  • Many houses
  • Churches
  • Schools and cinemas.

Listed Building Consent is required to carry out works of alteration or demolition to a listed building, both externally and internally. This consent is dealt with by Wandsworth's planning service.
