Many parts of the borough are designated conservation areas because of their special architectural or historic interest. There are over 40 conservation areas in the borough.
There are also over 400 buildings in the borough "listed" as being of special architectural or historic interest. Listing protects that building against unauthorised demolition, alteration or extension and ensures that its special interest is taken into account when proposals are put forward which affect its character or appearance.
We have a budget which allows us to offer small discretionary grants to schemes that either:
- Significantly enhance the appearance of buildings in conservation areas or
- Have a significant impact on the preservation of listed buildings.
You can find out more about conservation areas, listed buildings and whether or not you are eligible for a grant towards the conservation or enhancement of a building in this section.
