Connecting Clapham Junction

1. Complete the East London Line extension to Clapham Junction

East London Line Phase 1

The original East London Line ran from New Cross and New Cross Gate to Shoreditch via Surrey Quays. The first phase of the extension sees the East London Line operating from Dalston Junction to West Croydon and Crystal Palace - this is ready to open in May 2010. This will be followed by a further extension from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington in 2011 to improve interchange with the North London Line and Underground services.

East London Line Phase 2

The council has successfully campaigned for funding for the second phase of the extension from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction, via Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye. We still need to make sure the project is delivered by the promised date in 2012.

This extension would allow cross-London journeys from Clapham Junction to north east London, without the costs and delays involved in passing through central London. It would also create an interchange at Clapham Junction with the West London Line, which connects with the North London Line via Willesden Junction. This would form a new circular rail route around London.
