Connecting Clapham Junction

9. Improve train frequencies

Photo of a train arriving at Clapham JunctionTrain frequencies should be increased with more metro-style 'turn up and go' services. All long-distance services should stop at Clapham Junction.

Clapham Junction could have many of the benefits of an Underground-style service frequency at a fraction of the cost of building new lines. With only modest investment the council believes local services could provide a minimum of four trains an hour. With more money this could increase to six.

Some long distance services do not stop at Clapham Junction which limits the station's effectiveness as an interchange. This increases congestion on other services as passengers are forced to make unnecessary journeys into central London or to other stations to interchange there.

Interchange at Clapham Junction onto West London Line services now offers passengers alternative routes to Willesden Junction, north London, Watford and Milton Keynes to avoid the congestion and higher fares in Zone 1. These routes also provide access to the District Line at West Brompton and Central Line at Shepherd's Bush. The council wants to see at least five trains an hour on this line instead of the current three. The line to Milton Keynes should be developed into a cross-country connection from Brighton and Gatwick to the Midlands.

What do you think?

We are keen that investment is targeted effectively and delivers real improvements - particularly for people living locally who use the station regularly.
