Dog Control Service
Environmental Protection Act 1990
Sections 149 - 151 of the Environmental Protection Act refer to stray dogs and the powers given to local authorities to seize such stray dogs and then kennel them accordingly pending collection on payment by the owner(s). In our case such dogs are taken directly to Battersea Dogs and Cat Home for kennelling. Our great asset here is the introduction of micro-chipping that allows Dog Control Officers to re-unite the animal with its owner, quickly and efficiently, avoiding the stress to the dog of being kennelled in a strange environment.
Dog Control Officers use this legislation only when they come across such cases where the owners continually allow their dogs to roam / stray. If officers pick up a dog for a second or subsequent occasion, then it may be held at private out of London Kennels and you will have to pay a reclamation fee plus all kennelling (and other reasonable) costs before your dog is returned to you.
If you have lost your dog then you should contact us, and also contact the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home - Lost Dog Line on 0901 477 8477. Calls cost 60p per minute from a BT landline, other networks may vary. Contact times are seven days a week, 8am - 8pm.
