Wandsworth's dog control serviceOur aim is to carry out patrols in the borough for the effective enforcement of dog legislation and to promote responsible dog ownership.

The service is made up of seven members of staff - a manager and six operational members of staff who patrol the borough seven days a week between prescribed times.

The service is supported at all times by the Parks Police Service. Each member of staff is responsible for a designated area in the borough; if you have a problem locally contact us and we will put you in touch with the dog control officer who covers your area.

The service regularly patrols all parks, commons, gardens and other open spaces, along with housing estates as well as the miles of roadways within the borough. We enforce our byelaws and regulations on dog issues when required.

Our achievements so far (since we began in 1987):
  • We have dealt with over 9000 stray dogs and where possible have reunited them with their owners or taken to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
  • Have dealt with over 500 dangerous dog incidents
  • Processed 4,500 offences (by giving verbal warnings or sending cautionary letters or issuing anti-social behaviour orders or prosecuting offenders)
  • Successfully introduced the dog housing byelaws to all housing estates in the borough
  • Enforce the various other byelaws and regulations throughout the borough
  • Continue to re-educate a large number of dog owners to make them more responsible for their animals
  • Forged a working partnership with the local Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams
  • Introduced a borough-wide dog chipping policy on all housing estates with the council's housing department
  • Introduced Multiple Dog Walking Licences
  • Undertaken many anti-social behaviour enquiries.
