The 2M Group: against Heathrow expansion
High Speed Rail – an alternative to expansion

The 2M Group believes that a national high speed rail network incorporating major cities in England and Scotland could provide a competitive alternative to many short haul flights.
Around a quarter of the destinations currently served by Heathrow could be reached within four hours by new high speed rail services.
A number of different high speed options are now emerging. Most of these would put the airport firmly on any new line.
2M argues that a less Heathrow-centric approach is needed. Otherwise high speed rail could simply feed more air passengers into the airport - with increased demand in particular for long haul flights.
