Viewing the electoral register

It is not possible to view or search the electoral register online.  Members of the public are entitled to inspect a copy of the current register under supervision at the Electoral Services reception area, which is located off Fairfield Street in Wandsworth Town Hall.  Please note that the electoral register is presented in street order within polling districts and Borough Council Wards, and organised by Parliamentary constituencies, therefore it is not possible to search by name.

Section 33 of the Data Protection Act 1998 limits public access to data contained in the electoral register, therefore you are entitled to view the register for research purposes only.  Using information from the electoral register for commercial or any other purposes is forbidden.  Those viewing the register are permitted to make handwritten notes, but taking digital images or photocopies of the register is not allowed.  The Electoral Services office is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.  An index of streets is available to help you locate the section of the register required.

Electoral Services retain historical copies of the register of electors dating back approximately ten years.  If members of the public need to view earlier versions of the register, there are two options available:

  • The Heritage Service at Battersea Library
  • The British Library in Central London

Heritage Service

Located on the first floor of Battersea Library, the Heritage Service is open to members of the public who would like to view historical records for the Borough of Wandsworth.  If you would like to use the service, it is recommended that you phone ahead of your visit to allow the staff ample time to retrieve the relevant documents from the archive.

British Library

The British Library has electoral registers for all UK Parliamentary constituencies dating back to 1832, with complete records from 1947 (the compilation of electoral registers was interrupted during wartime).  In order to view the registers at the British Library, members of the public must apply for a reader's pass and make an appointment to use the reading room reserved for this purpose.  Alternatively, the Research Service can carry out a search for you, but this will incur a fee.  Please be aware that constituency names and boundaries may have changed over time, so allow time to locate the correct register.
