Parliamentary Boundary Review

Why is this review taking place?

What is the Boundary Commission?

The Boundary Commission is an independent and impartial public body, which reviews all Parliamentary constituency boundaries in the United Kingdom.

The current review, which must report to Parliament by 1 October 2013, is being carried out under new rules laid down in the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011.

What is changing?

The new rules mean there will be substantial changes to Parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom. These include:

  • Reducing the number of Parliamentary contituencies in the United Kingdom from 650 to 600
  • Reducing the number of Parliamentary constituencies in England from 533 to 502
  • Reducing the number of Parliamentary constituencies in London from 73 to 68 and
  • Making sure that each Parliamentary constituency contains a similar number of registered electors.

For more information on these changes please go to the Boundary Commission's Home Page

What are the proposed changes in Wandsworth?

Currently the electorate of Wandsworth is spread over three Parliamentary constituencies none of which cross borough boundaries, these are the Battersea, Putney and Tooting constituences.

The Boundary Commission for England is proposing that the electorate of the Borough be spread over four new Parliamentary constituencies all of which cross borough boundaries (three with Lambeth and one with Merton).

The proposed names of the four proposed Parliamentary constituencies and their corresponding maps are as follows:-
