Teacher recruitment

Pay and benefits

Wandsworth offers an inner London salary and benefits that you would expect from a progressive borough. All of our qualified teachers are paid on the Main Pay Scale, so your starting salary will be at least £27,000 (September 2011). There is also the opportunity to join the Teachers Pension Scheme that provides a final salary pension on retirement. Other benefits that are available to all of our teachers are listed below.

  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Comprehensive induction
  • Supportive and well-resourced schools
  • Extensive Learning Resource service
  • Access to affordable housing schemes
  • Promotional and CPD opportunities
  • At least five INSET days per year
  • Reduced membership rates at local health clubs

Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)

Our newly qualified teachers may also be entitled to an interest free loan of up to £1000, to help out with those inevitable costs that are associated with starting a new career and relocating. Please note that this benefit is only available to school's that use the Council as their payroll provider.

If you are interested in applying, please fill in the Interest Free Loan Application Form.

NQTs that work at the following schools have a different payroll system and are therefore will not eligible for the £1,000 interest free loan: Elliott; Graveney, Salesian, John Paul II, Southfields, St Cecelia's; Albermale; Hillbrook.

Affordable housing

As a teacher in a Wandsworth school, you may be eligible to take part in one of many Key Worker initiatives. All key public sector workers are given priority to enable the opportunity to get onto the property ladder or to rent property at below market values to aid in the retention of quality teachers in London boroughs. Wandsworth works with a number of housing partners to offer schemes that the majority of our teachers are eligible for.

Further information is at hand at Housing Options. Telephone: 0845 230 8099.
