Competition - What your school will be like in 2014

During the Spring term students were asked to write about what they expect school to be like in 2014, the entries received were of a high standard, with many clever and innovative ideas.  These will be used to help add an extra level of ideas to be reflected in the plans.

Congratulations to Duncan Clonts from Saint Cecilia's, Church of England School, Wandsworth & Anastasia Picton from Burntwood  School who won our Creative writing competition.

They were both presented their prize of an Asus Ultra Mobile PC at Burntwood School on Tuesday 5 May 2009 by Councillor Mrs. Kathy Tracey, who along with other Council members judged the short-listed entries and chose our two creative winners below.

A wide range of topics were covered in the entries received including technology, buildings & design/surroundings/social spaces, lessons, toilets, environmental issues and after-school Clubs. Below are some examples those ideas:

  • Use of swipe cards, finger print or voice recognition for registration.
  • Wider use of Laptops or "Smart books" in order to cut down the use of paper, enabling students to carry less books and prevent them from losing their homework.
  • Using technology to track the progress of each student, create a rewards system & share information with parents/carers.
  • Creating "pods" for small groups to work in.
  • Promoting fitness in schools by providing a reward point system and improving the sports facilities.
  • Students agreed that schools should be more environmentally friendly - providing new recycling facilities and renewable engery as well as space to grow food for the school kitchen.

Once again the BSF team would like to thank everyone for taking part in the competition.
