Wandsworth Youth Service
Youth crime prevention and detached youth work teams
Detached Youth Work
Wandsworth youth workers also work outside clubs and centres. This is important as not every young person wants to come to a club.
We get to know young people in their schools and communities but also out on the street and in parks.
We can then work with them to set up short programmes of activities to meet their needs. This may also help divert young people who might be at risk of getting into trouble.
Detached workers are based in each locality. View contact details of their area office.
Youth crime prevention
We also cover youth crime prevention and work connected to serious youth violence including gangs. This is delivered by BEIT (Borough Early Intervention Team) and a small 'gangs' team as well as through our detached youth work teams.
BEIT run workshops on issues such as knife crime, theft, sexual bullying and do work with young people individually if they would benefit from this.
The Youth Work Service and BEIT carry out 'targeted' work with young people in need of additional support through one-to-one and group work.
This includes working with young people who have committed their first crime and are referred to us by the Police.
