The Wandsworth Public Health team works with colleagues in all council departments to put public health at the heart of everything the council does.
Public Health is about preventing disease and keeping people healthy for longer by making changes in society and encouraging people to take responsibility for their own health.
The Wandsworth public health team develops long-term strategies and action plans, commissions services and works with partners to improve the health of people of the borough. Its priorities include reducing the rates of smoking and harmful drinking, reducing obesity in adults and children, improving the health of the residents of estates in Battersea and Roehampton and working to reduce the rates of heart disease, cancer, mental ill health and chronic pulmonary illness. It also works to encourage the update of breastfeeding and NHS Health checks.
