Retail surveys of the borough's town centres, local centres and important local parades - as defined by the Development Management Policies Document adopted in February 2012 - are carried out every two years.
The last survey was undertaken in 2016 and collected information on all ground floor units within the shopping frontages, as well as upper floor units within shopping centres.
Details of the occupier, use and use class are collected, enabling changes in the number of units and use class to be monitored over time.
