Diseases and conditions
The prevalence of morbidity is recorded in General Practice. The prevalence of many conditions is lower in Wandsworth than in London and England as shown in the chart below. For example, both dementia and obesity are relatively low, this is unsurprising given the relatively young population in Wandsworth. However, the prevalence of mental health conditions and depression are closer to the rates for London and England than the other conditions, possibly reflecting the fact that these issues are particular concerns for the young Wandsworth population.
Attendance rates at hospital also show health need in the community, in terms of preventing admission and treating ill health. Hospital activity is broken down into A&E, outpatient attendances, and admissions. Generally the rates of A&E attendances, outpatient attendances, and emergency admissions in Wandsworth is lower than for London and England, (with the exception of outpatients where Wandsworth is higher than England). However outpatient attendances and admissions for mental health conditions in Wandsworth is higher than London and England, providing further evidence that mental well being is a key issue for Wandsworth.
