Obesity in adults

This chart plots the rate in Wandsworth against London, Inner London and England. Confidence intervals displayed on the top of each bar can indicate if the differences between the comparators are statistically significant. The  rate of obesity in adults aged over 16 in 2008/09 was significantly lower in Wandsworth (5.5) compared with London (9.0), England (9.9) and Inner London (8.4).

Fruit and vegetable consumption

An estimated 31.1% of the population 16 years and over consumed five or more portions of fruit and vegetables. The estimate for London is 29.7% and Nationally is 26.3%. 

Sport participation

The 2009 Active People survey found that 28.4% of the Wandsworth population undertook physical activity, the second highest participation rate in London and 14th highest of 354 local authorities nationally. 

Smoking prevalence

In December 2009, 82,967 (22.88%) patients in Wandsworth were registered as smokers. This figure is based on unqualified EMIS data and is therefore for indicative purposes only.

There is evidence of an upward trend in Wandsworth from 2007/8 to 2010/11 as well as for England and London. However, Wandsworth rates are slightly lower compared to England and London from 2008/9 onwards.
