Hypnotism authorisation
About hypnotism authorisation
Summary of requirements
If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public within the London Borough of Wandsworth, you must have an authorisation from the council.
The requirement for authorisation does not apply to an exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism that takes place in the course of a performance of a play or where an exhibition is given for scientific or research purposes or for the treatment of mental or physical disease (unless in connection with an entertainment).
You must comply with any conditions attached to an authorisation. See the Council's standard conditions.
Note: It is an offence to carry out hypnotism on a person under the age of 18.
Eligibility criteria
There is a fee of £212. This includes £100 for enforcement, which will be refunded if your application is unsuccessful.
The council's Rules of Procedure set out the application process and the additional information that must be addressed when completing section 9.1 of the form.
Application evaluation process
An application for consent must be made not less than 28 days in advance of the performance concerned unless the hypnotist has performed at the same venue within the last three years without any problems occurring, when 14 days notice will be required.
Will tacit consent apply?
No. It is in the public interest that Wandsworth Council must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us. You can do this via the UK Welcomes website - if you applied via this service - or use the contact details below.
