Tooting Together
The Outer London Fund Round One - Success for Tooting!
In June 2011, the Mayor of London announced a new fund to benefit town centres - the Outer London Fund. Wandsworth Council decided to submit a bid for Tooting town centre aimed at developing the momentum and community commitment generated by its Tooting Together campaign. The bid was designed to boost Tooting's economy, primarily through a range of creative and cultural
offerings.

In August 2011, the Council learned that its bid had been successful, and that the Mayor of London's office (the Greater London Authority) had awarded a grant of almost £200,000 for Tooting town centre. This was great news for everyone who had worked so hard contributing to the bid proposal.
The challenge is that all the money has to be spent by the end of March 2012, and (as is the nature of these things) programme set up and contracts take a little while to arrange. So there has been some pressure to get all these arrangements in place! However, the major contractual arrangements have now been finalised and we are now ready to get going with the projects. The Council has also been preparing another bid for Tooting under Round Two of the Outer London Fund, which seeks to build upon the projects started during the lifetime of Round One.
