Free swimming

  • Free swimming is now available for people aged 16 and under and 60 and over. Book at Putney, Latchmere, Tooting or Balham Leisure Centre, or online at www.dcleisurecentres.co.uk. Subsidised swimming lessons for these age groups is also available in the summer.

Fit 4 Life

The Fit 4 Life programme for people aged 45 years and over is suitable for those who are looking for a new activity to try or who want to get back into a sport they used to enjoy. Active Lifestyles 50+

The free Active Lifestyles 50+ programme promotes and encourages physical activity and exercise amongst over 50s in Wandsworth. Membership is open to residents of Wandsworth and people who live outside the borough but who wish to use our leisure or community facilities. Activities include keep fit, aqua classes, health walks, chair-based exercise, dancing, tai chi, learn to swim, rowing and Badminton. Gardening4Life

Gardening4Life is a chance for everyone to make friends, get outside and get some light exercise.

Walk 4 Life programme

Did you know walking is a simple way to stay healthy? The Walk 4 Life programme offers free, guided walks around the borough's parks. Trained instructors will  help you build up your physical activity at a pace that suits you.

Activities for younger people

MEND

MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do it!) is a free, fun programme of activities for seven to 13-year-olds. Activities include games and swimming, nutritional advice, interactive discussions to teach easy ways to improve your child's lifestyle and self-confidence, practical demonstrations and tips on healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes. Sessions are held in Tooting, Battersea and Roehampton. The eight-week courses are free, but we will need to assess whether your child qualifies based on age, weight and health. Sport Unlimited

Sport Unlimited is a range of activities aimed at getting children and young people more active. Courses are run after school and at weekends. Holiday fun

Holiday fun includes a range of activities held during school holidays at different venues around the borough. These include multi-sports, dance, athletics, tennis and swimming. Phone 020 8871 8356, email holidayfun@wandsworth.gov.uk

The Urban Energy Project

The Urban Energy Project is a series of free fun after-school activity workshops for young people between 5 and 16 who need to lose weight and get more active to improve their health. The course runs throughout the year so youngsters can join in at any time.

London Youth Rowing

The London Youth Rowing encourages inactive children in three schools in Wandsworth to participate in indoor rowing. They can move on to rowing on water through the ongoing work at Barn Elms Boathouse.

Bike4Life

Bike4Life provides fun cycling sessions for children between 8 and 16 and their parents.  You can download more information from our related downloads area.

Boost Wandsworth

Boost Wandsworth is aimed at families, and includes exercise sessions, as well as advice on nutrition and healthy living.

Bader Gymnasium

For disabled people, the Bader Gymnasium at Queen Mary's Hospital  is a purpose built, fully equipped exercise facility that allows patients and members of the public to exercise together.
