Definition of a conservation area
A conservation area is an area of special architectural or historic interest. It has been designated by the council to help preserve and enhance its character and appearance.
45 conservation areas
There are over 45 conservation areas in the borough. They range from traditional village centres in Battersea and Roehampton to residential areas around the Commons. The Conservation and Design group looks closely at development proposals which have to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of these areas.
